Dawn Daykin Memorial Award

To be awarded on an annual basis to a GOALIE within the Kamloops Women’s Soccer League (any Division) that demonstrates the same attributes that made Dawn such an incredibly special person.

Dawn was a member of KWSL for many years. During that time she proved time and again what it takes to be a good teammate, a great friend and a true sportswoman. For Dawn, it wasn’t about being the best, it was about coming to the field to play your best (no matter what that was). Dawn was FEARLESS. She never complained, showed up for every game and stepped on the field with the attitude of a true fighter. Dawn was a valuable team member who was supportive to her teammates both on and off the field. She would be the first to agree that being a good goalie is not about the stats, it’s about the heart behind the gloves. Dawn had a big heart and she shared that zest of life with everyone around her.

This award is not necessarily about who is the best goalie. It’s not about shutouts or goals for/against. This award should go to a player that showed the same qualities that Dawn possessed and lived by – true heart, true grace and a true love of the game. This award should be presented to an individual who embodies the same legacy that Dawn created in that anyone can play in goal but it takes someone very special to be a Goalie.
